Mā te ahurei o te tamaiti eārahiiā ō tāyou mahi. Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work
Helping children and young people we are responsible for, to succeed to the best of their ability, requires a highly effective school board and principal working together in partnership.
The key focus of any school board is improving students’ educational progress. That is not to say that boards should delve into the management of the school – in fact, quite the reverse. An effective school board does not try to do the work their principal and staff are there to do. Instead they are active in setting the overall direction of the school through policy setting, strategic planning and monitoring the school’s progress towards its overall objective.
Our Craighead Diocesan School Board of Trustees is made up of various people from our parent community: there are Parent Representatives, Co-opted members, representatives from our Board of Proprietors, and a student and a teaching staff representative.
As an Integrated school, the Board of Trustee’s main responsibility lies with governance of curriculum delivery, with the day-to-day responsibility of management held by our highly capable Principal and Senior Leadership Team.

The land and buildings of Craighead Diocesan School are owned by the Board of Proprietors, and they are responsible for the maintenance and development of the property.
The Board of Proprietors has responsibility for the day to day welfare, management and financial viability operation of the Boarding House, which is a separate entity from the school.
Proprietor board members are representatives of the Synod of Christchurch, the Archdeaconry of Timaru, Craighead Connect, the Craighead Old Girls’ Association, the school, and the Bishop of Christchurch as the Warden of Craighead (ex offico -by virtue of his office). Collectively as a board, the Proprietors are responsible for ensuring the continuation of the Special Character of Craighead under its Integration Agreement.
